You are invited to pack a picnic and enjoy the day at one of the public parks located within the City of Lavonia.
The first park was located on West Avenue on property donated by Mr. S. E. Vandiver in 1927, at the request of the Woman’s Club. The property was given in honor of Mrs. S. E. (Vanna Bowers) Vandiver and named The Vanna Bowers Vandiver Park.
The Vanna Bowers Vandiver Park features a picnic shelter, concrete outdoor tables, and a barbecue pit. How do I get there? Take Highway 59 toward Carnesville, on the left about a quarter of a mile (1/4) from downtown traffic light.
In 1946, a meeting was held to discuss plans to erect a Memorial to the Veterans of WWII. At this meeting Major H.H. Crittenden suggested instead of a monument, a park to be built for the use of the community.
The park is located behind Lavonia City Hall and is equipped with shelters for picnics, a new playground, adult swings, reading areas and lots of greenspace. The park is continuing being improved for future generations. The pavilions may be reserved by calling 706-356-1926 or 706-356-5725.
Weldon Park located downtown on East Main Street, has an outdoor covered gazebo available for individuals, groups and corporate functions. Situated in the heart of Lavonia business district, Weldon Park is the perfect location for receptions, weddings, business outings and cultural events. For additional information on reserving the Gazebo area, call 706-356-1926 or 706-356-5725.
